How We Work

We provide a free and confidential service (please see confidentiality policy for full details). We aim to work with a client for an inital 20 sessions and where it is agreed that additional sessions would be of benefit to the client, the service can be extended.  We can offer face to face and video appointments during the day and evenings.

If you meet with us you will meet with two volunteer counsellors.  This may seem unusual but many women have told us that this has been very helpful.  We will meet with you once a fortnight for up to 1 hour, at an agreed time and this will usually be a regular appointment time.  Counselling is reviewed after each 6 sessions to ensure that it is helpful and that each woman continues to work towards her stated goals.

We also offer a helpline which is open between 7.30pm – 9.30pm on a Thursday evening and is monitored throughout the week and weekends when messages will be responded to as quickly as possible and usually on the same day.  Our helpline is 01707 276512 or you can email us directly at helpline@hertsrapecrisis.org.uk.
Full details of our helpline service can be found here.

HARCSAC is committed to a client led approach and understands that the women who use our services are best placed to identify their own recovery needs.  We offer non-judgemental, non-directive counselling and support and information in order to assist each woman’s individual recovery process.  In other words we will not tell you what to do but we will help you to explore your options and find a way to deal with the thoughts and feelings that may be affecting your life and relationships.

HARCSAC services support women to articulate their own experiences and reality in their own way in a safe, non-threatening, women only space.   We work from a women-centred perspective that promotes empowerment and self-determination as well as facilitating recovery from experiences of sexual violence.

If you think we might be an organisation that can help you in your recovery please contact the helpline for further information.
