About Us.

HARCSAC is committed to a client led approach and understands that the women who use our services are best placed to identify their own recovery needs.  We offer non-judgemental, non-directive counselling, support and information in order to assist each woman’s individual recovery process.  In other words we will not tell you what to do but we will help you to explore your options and find a way to deal with the thoughts and feelings that may be affecting your life and relationships.

HARCSAC services support women to articulate their own experiences and reality in their own way in a safe, non-threatening, women only space.   We work from a women-centred perspective that promotes empowerment and self-determination as well as facilitating recovery from experiences of violence.

How We Work

We provide a free and confidential service (please see confidentiality policy for full details) which is not time limited so we can work with you for as long as it takes for you to achieve your stated goals. We can offer face to face appointments during the day and evenings.

If you come to see us you will meet with two counsellors. This may seem unusual but many women have told us that this has been very helpful. We will meet with you for one hour every two weeks at a time agreed between us and this will usually be a regular appointment time. Counselling is reviewed after each 6 session period to ensure that it is helpful and that each woman continues to work towards her stated goals.
We also offer a helpline which is open on a Thursday evening and is monitored throughout the week and weekends when messages will be responded to as quickly as possible and usually on the same day. Full details of our helpline service can be found here.

If you think we might be an organisation that can help you in your recovery please contact the helpline for further information and a conversation about our waiting list.

What We Believe.

We understand that male violence against women is one of the most serious inequalities facing women in the UK today.

HARCSAC services are managed and delivered by women, for women.

HARCSAC services support women to articulate their own experiences and reality in their own way in a safe, non-threatening, women only space.

HARCSAC asserts that women and children can never be held responsible for the choice made by another to abuse them.

We believe that the women who use our services are best placed to identify their own recovery needs.

We listen, we believe and we never judge.

We believe rape and sexual violence is never the fault of the victim/survivor.

The rape crisis movement

HARCSAC is a member of Rape Crisis England and Wales (RCEW) and adhere to RCEW Service Standards.  RCEW is an umbrella organisation that supports Rape Crisis Centres all over the country.  RCEW provides national standards for good practice, lobbies government, and promotes awareness raising work.

Training

Our Volunteers

All of our volunteers have successfully completed specialist training in working with female survivors of rape and sexual abuse and continue to update their knowledge and skills through ongoing training and development.

External Training/Education

We are sometimes available to talk to community groups, schools and professional bodies about the work that we do and the prevalence of, and myths about sexual violence in our society.
